Author Wonders, Who Supports those Who Care For Others?
New book celebrates caregivers, offers helpful tips, supportive advice and plan for future
OMAHA, Neb. — Providing assistance and support to another person can be demanding and stressful, but also
rewarding and awe-inspiring. At the Heart of the Matter: A Spiritual Journey for Caregivers (published by WestBow
Press) by Dr. Eboni Ivory Green is a new book that discusses the special relationship between the caregiver and the person receiving care.
Caregiving is a 24-7 experience. There is no time clock tabulating our hours, and the whistle does not blow at the end of our eight-hour shift. Through this journey we call caregiving, we are prompted to search for the meaning in our mission of service to others. As we begin this journey, we must ask ourselves some questions.
At the Heart of the Matter is a concise, cleanly-structured exploration of caregiving. Green has written it with the caregiver in mind, offering famous quotes, interesting points to consider and poems and stories of support. Each chapter is short and easy-to-read; many caregivers lack hours of uninterrupted time, and Green's book is structured
to be read in short sessions.
Different from other books about caregiving, At the Heart of the Matter does not focus on the caregiver's journey through a disease-specific process. It provides caregivers inspiration and tools to build new coping techniques
during the lulls in the caregiving cycle. Few other books offer caregivers hope and support by feeding them original poems, motivational quotes and other interesting, thought-provoking prompts. Designed to offer support and reduce burnout, At the Heart of the Matter combats feelings of hopelessness in
caregivers. Green's mission is to assure them that they are not alone when they begin to feel angry, guilty or overwhelmed.
